110. Francis Benton Jr.
According to Sharron Spencer, <JandSSpencer@earthlink.net>, this Francis Benton resided in Edgefield Co., SC, ca 1788-1800, before moving with his wife, Selah and family, to TN."Francis appears on the 1790 and 1800 census of Edgefield, SC, and removed to TN by 1813 when he and Selah Benton joined the Salem Baptist Church in Smith (later DeKalb) Co., TN. Interestingly, David, Sarah and Betsey Benton joined the same church in 1812. This is apparently David, Sr., father of the David for whom Benton Co., TN was eventually named. Francis and Selah Benton were in Meigs Co., TN by 1824 when they joined Concord Church. It is not known, at this time, exactly how many children Francis and Selah had." (Source: Email of 20 Jan 2002, from Sharron Spencer, DNA Coordinator at <JandSSpencer@earthlink.net>)Francis and Selah were in Meigs Co., TN by 1824 when they joined Concord Church. It is not know, at this time, exactly how many children were born to them.

He received a Warrant for 600 acres 5 Jun 1813, which was executed 5 Jul 1815. He married Annie Tanner 10 Oct 1813 in Jackson Co., GA. Three Land Lots were won by William Thurmond of Hamilton's Bn in the 1820 Land Lottery, but there is some mistake. The subject could have won two, but not three: LL 316 of 7th District LL 453 of 11th District, and LL 243 of 12th District, all in Gwinnett County. Records of Gwinnett are scarce, so I have not research them for sale of the Lots. The family of William Thurmond is found in the following census records:1840 Walton County, GA p. 107.1850 Cobb County, GA p. 169.1860 Monroe County, GA p. 748.1870 Jones Co., GA p 177. 86 years old, living alone, just across the Ocmulgee River from Juliette and Monroe County.
