104. James Moran
Note: (Research):James along with his brothers, Bazil, Elisha, & Joseph went to Georgia in the spring of 1786. James only appeared on one record! Fortunately, that record provides sufficient information to firmly link James to two of his brothers. Furthermore, the presence of James in Georgia provides the only apparent answer to the identity of the father of the children listed; James appeared on the tax digest for Wilkes Co., GA. in 1787. He was listed in Captain George Heard's Militia District, a small district consisting of only 62 men near the Greene Co., GA border. Among other men in the district were John McCormick and John McCormick, Jr. In that same year Bazil Moran and Joseph Moran were listed on the tax records of Greene Co., GA. In 1788 Elisha was listed on the tax records of Greene Co., GA. In 1789 Bazel married in Greene Co., GA; In 1870 Bazil & Joseph appeared on the tax digest for Wilkes Co. in precisely the same small militia district where James had been three years earlier. This is the essential fact which identifies James as a brother of Bazil & Joseph. The district was then commanded by John McCormick, Jr., whose father had apparently died by that time. The district in 1790 was still very small, consisting of only 107 men, and still included George Heard, the commander in 1787.
